Look up the song or original sound behind an Instagram audio id: who made it, how long it is, whether it is trending and how many Reels use it.

About this endpoint

GET /v2/instagram/audio/{audioId} takes an audio id, the id of an audio search result or the audio.id of a Reel, and returns the audio. Read data.lookupStatus first (found or not_found), then data.audio: id, title, artist, artistHandle, durationMs, isOriginal, isExplicit, reelCount, isTrending, coverUrl, previewUrl, spotifyUrl and hasLyrics, always present and null when Instagram doesn't say. Original audio has no cover art, Spotify page, preview clip or lyrics flag, so those are null. For licensed music, spotifyUrl links the track on Spotify and hasLyrics says whether Instagram has lyrics for it.

reelCount is an exact count of the Reels that use the audio. Use it to check how widely a track is used, whether a sound is trending, or which account created an original sound. To list the Reels themselves, call GET /v2/instagram/audio/{audioId}/media. An id Instagram doesn't know comes back as not_found with audio null; audio with no Reels is still found. meta.version is v2.

Instagram audio API FAQ

How do I get an Instagram song or sound via API?

Call GET /v2/instagram/audio/{audioId} with your Social Fetch API key (x-api-key) and an audio id in the path. Read data.lookupStatus, then data.audio. See the API docs for parameters and examples.

How much does the Instagram audio API cost?

Pricing is documented on the operation in the API registry (shown on this page). Confirm on every response with meta.creditsCharged — that field is the billing source of truth.

Where do I get an audio id?

From GET /v2/instagram/audio/search, where each result's id is the audio id, or from the audio.id on a Reel returned by any v2 media endpoint. Original audio and licensed music both work.

What does reelCount mean?

It is the exact number of Reels using the audio, from the audio's own page. It is null only when Instagram doesn't report a count.

What does not_found mean?

Instagram doesn't know the id, or has no details for it. It comes back as a normal 200 with audio null and is billed as a lookup. An id from GET /v2/instagram/audio/search can occasionally resolve to not_found; then try that search result's assetId as the audioId.

Can I list the Reels that use an audio?

Yes. GET /v2/instagram/audio/{audioId}/media pages the public Reels that use the audio, ranked by Instagram, and also returns the audio on its first page.
