Pay for the listening you use, not the whole suite.

Talkwalker sells one platform on a quote: the sources, dashboards and modules it packages. Social Fetch sells each keyword, network and check on its own, so you build exactly the listening you need and see the price of every piece.

Why teams switch from Talkwalker.

Talkwalker sells one platform on a quote. Social Fetch sells each keyword, network and check on its own, at public prices.

Only the pieces you use

Pick each keyword, each network and each schedule. No platform licence, no modules and no dashboards you pay for but never open.

A fraction of the contract

Ten keywords on X, Reddit, TikTok and Instagram, checked hourly, is $79 a month: $948 a year. Vendr puts the average Talkwalker contract at $27,370.

The post, not an ID

Every search runs live and returns the text, author and metrics. Talkwalker's API returns X results as IDs you rehydrate through X's own API.

You set every dial

Each monitor gets its own schedule, from daily down to every minute (5 on X). dryRun shows the monthly credits before it runs, and a spend cap stops it overshooting.

Data you can keep

Store the JSON in your warehouse, join it with your CRM, or feed it to your own model for sentiment and summaries.

No contract, no demo

Sign up, get a key and run a search in minutes. Pay as you go with credits that never expire, or pick a monthly plan for lower rates.

Never expires

Swap three steps for one request.

The same brand search, both ways. Talkwalker returns X hits as IDs you rehydrate through X's own API; Social Fetch returns the posts themselves.

Talkwalker's Streaming API can push results to a collector instead of polling, and its X data add-on (through your Customer Success Manager) returns full X posts without rehydration. The export restrictions on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Reddit and TikTok content still apply. To have new posts pushed to you instead, point a Monitor at the same search.

Which one should you pick?

If your situation matches the right-hand card, Talkwalker is probably the better buy — and that's fine.

Pick Social Fetch if…

  • You need each post's text, author and metrics as JSON, not IDs or totals
  • Mentions should land in your warehouse, Slack or agent through a webhook
  • You want public prices from $1.27 per 1,000 credits and no annual contract
  • You'll run sentiment or summaries with your own model through the API or MCP server
  • You want data today, not after a demo and a procurement cycle

Pick Talkwalker if…

  • You need image and logo recognition across photos and video
  • You track TV, podcasts and news alongside social in one tool
  • Executives want ready-made dashboards, sentiment and reports with no engineer involved
  • You need years of searchable history (Lumen advertises 2+ years)
  • You already pay for Hootsuite Enterprise and want listening next to publishing

Social Fetch vs Talkwalker: common questions

Migration, billing surprises, and what changes when you add a second platform.

Is Talkwalker now Lumen?

Yes. Hootsuite announced it would acquire Talkwalker in April 2024, and in June 2026 renamed the product Lumen by Talkwalker. Hootsuite Listening is now Lumen too, and Hootsuite says full Talkwalker-powered listening is available only to its Enterprise customers. For Hootsuite's plans, see our Hootsuite comparison.

How much does Talkwalker cost?

Talkwalker doesn't publish prices; you get a quote from sales. Vendr's buyer data puts the average contract at $27,370 a year, with deals up to about $100,000 (small sample, checked 25 Sep 2026). Its API also meters credits: 1 per Search API result, with a 10-credit minimum per call. Social Fetch starts at $1.27 per 1,000 credits, and tracking 10 keywords hourly on X, Reddit, TikTok and Instagram fits the $79/month Growth plan.

Does Talkwalker have an API, and can I export Instagram data?

Talkwalker has an API, but its own docs restrict what it exports. Facebook and Instagram content can't be exported by API or any automated method; you get aggregated metrics only. X results come back as post ID, author ID and sentiment unless you buy the X data add-on. LinkedIn can't be exported, and Reddit and TikTok return metrics only. Social Fetch returns Instagram posts with captions, owner and metrics from GET /v1/instagram/search/hashtags, and full X posts from GET /v1/twitter/search.

Can Social Fetch do sentiment analysis?

Not built in. Social Fetch returns the post text and metrics, and you run sentiment with the model you choose: send the JSON to Claude or GPT through the API, or connect an agent to the MCP server. You pick the labels and can re-score old posts whenever you change the prompt. If you want sentiment in a ready-made dashboard, Talkwalker is the better fit.

How do I migrate my Talkwalker Boolean queries?

Split each query into its keywords. Create one monitor per keyword per source with POST /v1/monitors, using X search, Reddit search, TikTok search or an Instagram hashtag, and point them all at one webhook endpoint. Apply the NOT clauses in your webhook handler or with your own model. Add ?dryRun=true to see the monthly credit cost before you create anything.

Does Social Fetch cover TV, podcasts and news?

No. Social Fetch covers social platforms and public web pages, with no broadcast or licensed news monitoring. If you need TV and podcast coverage, keep a suite like Talkwalker for that and use Social Fetch for the social posts you want to own.

The detailed Social Fetch vs Talkwalker comparisonHow Talkwalker works, where the costs come from, and when to keep it.

The short version

Talkwalker (now Lumen by Talkwalker, part of Hootsuite) is a listening suite: you write Boolean queries and read the results in its dashboards. Its own developer docs limit what the API lets you take out. Facebook and Instagram content can't be exported, X results come back as post ID, author ID and sentiment, LinkedIn data can't be exported, and Reddit and TikTok come back as aggregated metrics only. Social Fetch sells the data layer instead. Search X, Reddit, TikTok and Instagram and get each post's text, author and metrics as JSON, or set a monitor and receive new posts on a signed webhook. Prices are public, from $1.27 per 1,000 credits, and you start with 100 free credits and no card.

Talkwalker is now Lumen by Talkwalker, part of Hootsuite

Hootsuite announced it would acquire Talkwalker on 8 April 2024. In June 2026 Hootsuite renamed the product Lumen by Talkwalker, and Hootsuite Listening is now Lumen too. Inside Hootsuite, the full Talkwalker-powered listening product is available only to Enterprise customers. If you're weighing Hootsuite's own plans, see the Hootsuite comparison.

Lumen is a dashboard product. You write Boolean queries, and it shows mentions, sentiment, trends and image recognition across social networks, news and podcasts, with 2+ years of history according to its product page. Talkwalker publishes no prices. Access is by demo or trial, then a quoted contract.

What Talkwalker's API lets you take out

Talkwalker's developer docs list the restrictions on its API exports. Facebook and Instagram content is "not exportable via APIs or any automated mechanism", so you get aggregated metrics from the Histogram API instead. For X, exported fields are limited to the post ID, the author ID and Talkwalker's sentiment score, capped at 1.5M posts a month per account. To read the posts you rehydrate the IDs through X's own paid API, or buy Talkwalker's X data add-on. LinkedIn data can't be exported. Reddit and TikTok come back as aggregated metrics only, and news and TV are cut to snippets.

The API meters usage in its own credits: the Search API costs 1 credit per result with a 10-credit minimum per call, credits reset monthly, and search inside a project is limited to 60 calls a minute.

So the dashboard can show a Reddit thread or an Instagram post, but the raw content doesn't leave Talkwalker. If your goal is a warehouse table, a Slack feed or an agent that reads the posts, that's the part you can't buy.

Listening on Social Fetch: search plus monitors

Social Fetch returns the post itself. GET /v1/twitter/search, GET /v1/reddit/search, GET /v1/tiktok/search and GET /v1/instagram/search/hashtags each return full text or captions, author, timestamps and engagement metrics as JSON, fetched live when you call. LinkedIn, Threads and YouTube have search endpoints too.

For ongoing tracking, Monitors run the poll-and-diff loop for you. Point one at X search, Reddit search, TikTok search or an Instagram hashtag, pick an interval, and new posts arrive on a signed webhook. Each check bills the route's normal price, and management calls are free. A check reads one page of results, so a busy keyword may need a shorter interval to catch every post. The monitor docs cover sources, retries and billing.

Social Fetch doesn't ship sentiment or dashboards. Pipe the JSON into Claude, GPT or your own classifier through the API or the MCP server, and you control the model, the prompt and the labels.

A team that moved off Talkwalker

One Social Fetch customer, an insights team at a UK consumer brand, moved its listening off Talkwalker in June 2026. They were paying about $30,000 a year. Their reason for leaving: they wanted every matching post in their own warehouse, and Talkwalker's API gave them X posts as IDs and Reddit as totals.

On Social Fetch they run 36 monitors across X search and Reddit search, 18 brand and competitor keywords on each, checked hourly, delivering new posts to their warehouse and a Slack channel. That's about 26,000 credits a month, so they now spend $79 a month on the Growth plan, and the switch took two weeks.

How we priced the comparison

The standard scenario: track 10 keywords on X, Reddit, TikTok and Instagram, checked hourly: 10 × 4 × 24 × 30 = 28,800 checks a month. On Social Fetch each check on GET /v1/twitter/search, GET /v1/reddit/search, GET /v1/tiktok/search and GET /v1/instagram/search/hashtags costs 1 credit, so the month is 28,800 credits across 40 monitors. That fits the Growth plan: $79 a month for 50,000 credits and up to 100 monitors. Checking every 15 minutes instead is 115,200 credits, which fits the Scale plan at $225 a month for 150,000 credits. Talkwalker doesn't publish prices, so we compare against Vendr's average Talkwalker contract of $27,370 a year (about $2,280 a month), drawn from a small sample of more than 5 deals with 3 buyers. Talkwalker's API also meters its own credits: 1 per Search API result, with a 10-credit minimum per call.

Bottom line: A suite on a quote, or exactly the listening you need

Talkwalker (now Lumen by Talkwalker, part of Hootsuite) is built for teams that read listening data in a dashboard: sentiment, image recognition, broadcast and years of history on a quoted contract. Its API won't hand over Facebook or Instagram content, returns X as IDs and gives Reddit and TikTok as totals. If your team wants the posts themselves in its own systems, Social Fetch lets you pick every keyword, network and schedule and pay per check: full-text JSON from X, Reddit, TikTok and Instagram search, monitors that push new posts to a webhook, and $79 a month for ten keywords checked hourly. It starts at $1.27 per 1,000 credits, with 100 free credits and no card.
