Listening without seats or an Enterprise quote.

Hootsuite prices listening by user and by plan tier, with the full product behind an Enterprise quote. Social Fetch prices it by the check: the keywords, networks and schedule you choose, shared by everyone on the account.

  • What you pay for

Each check you run, from $1.27 per 1,000 credits. No seats, modules or platform fee.
    Hootsuite
Per user per month: $99 Standard, $199 Professional, $399 Advanced, billed annually. Full listening needs Enterprise, priced by quote.
  • Keywords

Any keyword, added or removed with one API call. No keyword slots or mention allowance.
    Hootsuite
Listening searches inside your plan, with 7 days of history on Standard and 30 on Advanced.
  • Networks

Chosen per keyword: monitors on X, Reddit, TikTok and Instagram, on-demand search on YouTube, LinkedIn and Threads too.
    Hootsuite
Facebook, X, Bluesky, YouTube and Quora on every plan. Instagram, LinkedIn, Reddit and Threads on Enterprise only.
  • How often it checks

Set per monitor: daily, hourly, every 15 minutes or down to every minute (5 on X). Slower costs less.
    Hootsuite
Set by Hootsuite. You read results in the dashboard; the public API has no listening endpoint.
  • Cost control

dryRun shows a monitor's monthly credits before it runs, and spendCapCredits caps what it can spend.
    Hootsuite
Seats: every user you add is another $99 to $399 a month.
  • Where results go

Full post JSON on a signed webhook, then into your warehouse, Slack or agent.
    Hootsuite
Hootsuite and Lumen dashboards. The Lumen MCP connector lets ChatGPT and Claude read them.
  • Sentiment and summaries

A five-person team on Hootsuite Advanced is $1,995 a month before any Enterprise listening. The $79/mo Growth step above covers the whole team, because Social Fetch has no seats.

Why teams move listening off Hootsuite.

Keep Hootsuite for publishing if it works for you. Build the listening yourself, one keyword and one network at a time, and pay per check.

Every network on every plan

Instagram, Reddit, TikTok, X, LinkedIn and Threads search sit behind one key from your first free credit. On Hootsuite, Instagram, LinkedIn, Reddit and Threads listening is Enterprise only.

From $1.27 per 1,000, with no seats

One search is one credit, and everyone on the account shares the balance. Hootsuite charges $99 to $399 per user per month before any Enterprise listening.

The posts, not a dashboard

Each search returns post text, author and engagement counts in the response, in ~3.2s on average. Hootsuite's public API has no listening endpoint to call.

You set every dial

Pick the keywords, networks and schedule for each monitor, from daily down to every minute (5 on X). dryRun shows the monthly credits first, and a spend cap keeps it there.

History you keep

Store every result in your own database for as long as you need it. Hootsuite's search window is 7 days on Standard and 30 days on Advanced.

Data today, no sales call

Start with 100 free credits and no card. Pay as you go with credits that never expire, or save with a monthly plan once usage is regular.

Never expires

Turn a Lumen topic into one request.

The same topic, both ways. Hootsuite's public API has no listening endpoint, so the topic lives in the Lumen UI. On Social Fetch it's one search request that returns the matching posts as JSON.

Lumen by Talkwalker (Enterprise)7 lines
// A topic query, built in the Lumen UI.
// Results land in Lumen dashboards, alerts and reports.
// Hootsuite's public REST API has no listening endpoint,
// so there is no request to write here.

("acme cloud" OR acmecloud)
AND (pricing OR outage OR alternative)
  NOT hiring
Social Fetch7 lines
const api = "https://api.socialfetch.dev";

const res = await fetch(
  `${api}/v1/twitter/search?query=acme+cloud`,
  { headers: { "x-api-key": SOCIALFETCH_API_KEY } },
);
const { data } = await res.json();
// data.tweets: full text, author, metrics

Refinements such as exclusions use each platform's own search syntax. Swap the path for /v1/reddit/search or /v1/tiktok/search to cover the other networks. To have new posts pushed to you instead, point a Monitor at the same search.

Which one should you pick?

If your situation matches the right-hand card, Hootsuite is probably the better buy — and that's fine.

Pick Social Fetch if…

  • You need the matching posts as JSON to store, enrich or feed to a model
  • You want Instagram, Reddit, LinkedIn or Threads search without an Enterprise contract
  • Several people or clients share the work, and per-seat pricing doesn't scale for you
  • You want a signed webhook when a new post matches on X, Reddit, TikTok or Instagram
  • Your AI agent needs live search results through an API or MCP server
  • You want data today, with 100 free credits, no card and no sales call

Pick Hootsuite if…

  • You need to schedule and publish posts. Social Fetch reads public data; it doesn't publish, schedule or approve anything
  • Your team answers comments and DMs in a shared inbox, or runs employee advocacy
  • You want listening dashboards, sentiment and AI summaries with no code, plus 13 months of history on Enterprise
  • You track podcasts, news sites, newsletters and blogs alongside social in one view
  • You want the Wisdom agent and Hootsuite's MCP connectors across publishing, inbox and listening
  • You'd rather trial a full suite first: every paid Hootsuite plan has a 14-day free trial

Social Fetch vs Hootsuite: common questions

Migration, billing surprises, and what changes when you add a second platform.

How much does Hootsuite cost?

As of 25 September 2026, Hootsuite Standard is $99, Professional $199 and Advanced $399 per user per month, billed annually. Enterprise is a custom quote. Every paid plan has a 14-day free trial with no card. Listening depends on the plan: Standard searches the past 7 days and Advanced the past 30, on Facebook, X, Bluesky, YouTube and Quora. Instagram, LinkedIn, Reddit and Threads listening is Enterprise only. Social Fetch starts at $1.27 per 1,000 requests, with no seats and 100 free credits to start.

Does Hootsuite have a social listening API?

Not in its public REST API. Hootsuite's developer docs cover publishing, media, SCIM, Ow.ly, Amplify, the Inbox and an Analytics API for your own connected profiles, and they list no listening or mentions endpoint. Hootsuite does have MCP connectors, including one for Lumen that lets AI assistants read your listening data. Social Fetch gives you listening data as REST endpoints such as GET /v1/reddit/search and GET /v1/twitter/search, plus a hosted MCP server.

Is Hootsuite Listening the same as Talkwalker?

Hootsuite agreed to acquire Talkwalker in April 2024, and its Enterprise listening is "powered by Talkwalker". Since the Social OS relaunch on 24 June 2026, the listening product is called Lumen by Talkwalker. We compare it directly on Social Fetch vs Talkwalker.

Can Social Fetch post to my social accounts?

No. Social Fetch reads public social data. It doesn't publish, schedule or approve posts, and it doesn't connect to your accounts. If you need publishing, keep Hootsuite or another scheduler for that and use Social Fetch for listening data.

Which Hootsuite plan includes Instagram listening?

Only Enterprise. Hootsuite's listening page says Talkwalker-powered listening is "available only to Hootsuite Enterprise customers", and that is the tier that adds Instagram, LinkedIn, Reddit and Threads. On Social Fetch, GET /v1/instagram/search/hashtags and the other search endpoints work on every plan, including the 100 free credits.

Can Social Fetch do sentiment analysis?

Not built in. Social Fetch returns the post text and metrics, and you run sentiment with your own model: send the JSON to Claude or GPT, or let an agent call our MCP server. You choose the model and the labels, and you keep the raw posts. If you want sentiment dashboards with no code, Hootsuite Enterprise includes them.

Is Social Fetch a Hootsuite alternative?

Yes, for social listening data. It replaces the listening side with keyword search on Instagram, Reddit, TikTok, X, LinkedIn and Threads as JSON, and monitors that push new matches to a signed webhook. It is not a Hootsuite alternative for scheduling, publishing or a shared inbox.

The detailed Social Fetch vs Hootsuite comparisonHow Hootsuite works, where the costs come from, and when to keep it.

The short version

Hootsuite is a social media management suite: scheduling, approvals, a shared inbox and advocacy, priced per user. Listening comes in two tiers. Every plan gets basic listening on Facebook, X, Bluesky, YouTube and Quora, with a 7-day search window on Standard and 30 days on Advanced. Instagram, LinkedIn, Reddit and Threads need Hootsuite's Talkwalker-powered listening, which is Enterprise only. Its public REST API covers your own accounts and has no listening endpoint. Social Fetch doesn't publish anything. It sells the listening data: keyword search on the major networks as JSON, monitors that push new matches to a signed webhook, and credits shared by the whole team.

Hootsuite is a publishing suite with listening attached

Hootsuite schedules and publishes posts, runs approvals, handles replies in a shared inbox and powers employee advocacy. In June 2026 it relaunched as Social OS: Perch for publishing, Nest for customer care, Parliament for advocacy and Lumen by Talkwalker for listening, with the Wisdom AI agent on top. Hootsuite agreed to buy Talkwalker in April 2024, and Talkwalker is now Lumen by Talkwalker. If you're comparing the listening side on its own, see Social Fetch vs Talkwalker.

Social Fetch doesn't compete with the publishing half. It doesn't schedule, publish or approve posts. It competes with the listening half, and it sells that as data rather than as a dashboard.

What listening you get on each Hootsuite plan

Every Hootsuite plan includes basic listening on Facebook, X, Bluesky, YouTube and Quora, plus podcasts, news sites, newsletters, blogs and forums. Standard ($99 per user per month, billed annually) searches the past 7 days. Advanced ($399) searches the past 30 days.

Instagram, LinkedIn, Reddit and Threads are only in Hootsuite Listening powered by Talkwalker, which Hootsuite says is "available only to Hootsuite Enterprise customers". Enterprise adds 13 months of historical data, sentiment and real-time alerts, at a custom price. TikTok isn't in the network list on that page.

On Social Fetch every search endpoint is on every plan, including the free credits: GET /v1/instagram/search/hashtags, GET /v1/reddit/search, GET /v1/tiktok/search, GET /v1/linkedin/posts/search and GET /v1/threads/search.

Hootsuite's API covers your accounts, not the conversation

Hootsuite's public REST API is built for the accounts you manage: scheduling posts with media, SCIM user provisioning, Ow.ly links, Amplify advocacy and the Inbox. Its Analytics API returns metrics for your connected profiles and needs the Advanced Analytics add-on. The developer docs list no listening or mentions endpoint, so matching posts from other people stay in Hootsuite's dashboards and reports.

Hootsuite does have MCP connectors. The Lumen MCP lets assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude read your listening data, which is useful for questions inside a chat. It is a different job from putting every matching post into your own database.

Social Fetch returns the posts. Each search response carries the post text, author, engagement counts and timestamps as JSON you can store, join and send to your own model. The same endpoints are available through our hosted MCP server.

Seats against credits

Hootsuite prices per user. A five-person team on Advanced is $1,995 a month at the annual rate, and that still has no Instagram, LinkedIn, Reddit or Threads listening. Social Fetch has no seats: the whole team, every client and every script draws on one balance.

The standard scenario, 10 keywords on X, Reddit, TikTok and Instagram checked hourly, is 28,800 one-credit checks a month. That fits the Growth plan at $79 a month. Checked every 15 minutes, it fits Scale at $225 a month.

Each check returns one page of results. A busy keyword can produce more new posts between checks than one page holds, so give it a shorter interval: as often as every 5 minutes on X search and every minute on the other sources, at the same one credit per check.

How to move listening off Hootsuite

Most teams keep Hootsuite for publishing and move the listening. List your Lumen or Hootsuite Listening topics, turn each into a search query, and create one monitor per source with POST /v1/monitors. Monitors can watch X search, Reddit search, TikTok video and top search, and Instagram hashtags, as well as profile feeds and subreddits. New matches arrive at your endpoint as signed webhooks; the monitor docs cover verification and retries.

For sources monitors don't watch, such as LinkedIn posts, Threads or YouTube, call the search endpoint on your own schedule. Sentiment and summaries come from your own model: send the post text to Claude or GPT, or let an agent read it through our MCP server.

How we priced the comparison

Track 10 keywords on X, Reddit, TikTok and Instagram, checked hourly: 10 × 4 × 24 × 30 = 28,800 checks a month. On Social Fetch each check is one credit on GET /v1/twitter/search, GET /v1/reddit/search, GET /v1/tiktok/search or GET /v1/instagram/search/hashtags. That is 40 monitors and 28,800 credits a month, which fits the Growth plan at $79 a month (50,000 credits, up to 100 monitors). Checking every 15 minutes takes 115,200 credits, which fits the Scale plan at $225 a month. On Hootsuite, Instagram and Reddit listening is Enterprise only, and Hootsuite doesn't publish Enterprise prices. TikTok isn't in the network list on Hootsuite's listening page.

Bottom line: Keep the scheduler, own the listening data

Hootsuite is built for publishing and engagement, and its best listening sits behind an Enterprise quote with no listening API. Social Fetch is built for the data: keyword search on Instagram, Reddit, TikTok, X, LinkedIn and Threads as JSON, monitors with signed webhooks, and one credit balance with no seats, from $1.27 per 1,000. If you need to publish, keep Hootsuite for that. If you need the posts people write about you, in your own systems, use Social Fetch.
