# Reddit post API

Pass a public Reddit post URL and get identity, community, metrics, and flags in the shared Social Fetch envelope — without walking the comment tree.

`GET /v1/reddit/posts` takes a required public post `url` (permalinks with `/comments/` or share links with `/s/`). On a completed lookup, branch on `data.lookupStatus`, then read `data.post`. When found, the post can include id, fullId, title, text, url, permalink, subreddit, subredditNamePrefixed, author, subredditSubscribers, score, upvoteRatio, commentCount, awardCount, createdAt (ISO-8601), isVideo, archived, locked, over18, and spoiler. `data.post` is null on `not_found`. Bill from `meta.creditsCharged`.

This route is post metadata for one URL. Comment listing is `GET /v1/reddit/posts/comments`. Video captions are `GET /v1/reddit/posts/transcript`. A community feed is `GET /v1/reddit/subreddits/{subreddit}/posts`. Site-wide keyword search is `GET /v1/reddit/search`.

## FAQ

### How do I get a Reddit post via API?

Call GET /v1/reddit/posts with your Social Fetch API key (x-api-key) and a public Reddit post url query param. Read data.lookupStatus, then data.post. See the API docs for parameters and examples.

### How much does the Reddit post endpoint cost?

Pricing is documented on the operation in the API registry (shown on this page). Confirm on every response with meta.creditsCharged — that field is the billing source of truth.

### What URL formats does the Reddit post API accept?

Public post permalinks that include /comments/ and share URLs that include /s/. Relative /r/… paths are rewritten to https://www.reddit.com. Private, deleted, or otherwise unresolved posts come back as not_found.

### What fields are in data.post?

When lookupStatus is found, data.post can include id, fullId, title, text, url, permalink, subreddit, subredditNamePrefixed, author, subredditSubscribers, score, upvoteRatio, commentCount, awardCount, createdAt (ISO-8601), isVideo, archived, locked, over18, and spoiler. It is null on not_found.

### Reddit post vs comments vs transcript vs subreddit posts?

Use this route for post detail without walking comments. Use GET /v1/reddit/posts/comments for the comment tree. Use GET /v1/reddit/posts/transcript for video captions. Use GET /v1/reddit/subreddits/{subreddit}/posts for a community feed. They are separate operations on the Reddit hub.

### Does a found lookup always include post text?

No. lookupStatus of found means the post resolved. data.post.text is the self-text body when Reddit exposes one; link posts and empty bodies return null. You still pay the credit for a completed lookup.

### Do I need Reddit OAuth to pull a post?

No. You authenticate to Social Fetch with an API key. The route reads public posts; it does not act on behalf of a logged-in Reddit user or open private subreddits.
