# Apple Music Search API

Search the public Apple Music catalog by query and get typed result sections in the shared Social Fetch envelope.

`GET /v1/apple-music/search` takes a required `query` string. Optional `type` limits results to `all`, `song`, `album`, `artist`, `playlist`, `station`, `music_video`, or `radio_episode`. Omit `type` to search across catalog kinds (the response echoes `all`). The payload splits into always-present arrays: `data.artists`, `data.albums`, `data.songs`, `data.playlists`, `data.stations`, `data.musicVideos`, and `data.radioEpisodes`, plus `data.totalResults` for the rows in this response. Empty sections are a valid 200 when the query has no public matches.

This route is a single-page catalog search. There is no cursor. Drill into a song or album with `GET /v1/apple-music/track` or `GET /v1/apple-music/album` using the ids from these rows. Bill from `meta.creditsCharged`. Playback and user libraries stay on Apple's official Apple Music API.

## FAQ

### How do I search Apple Music via API?

Call GET /v1/apple-music/search with your Social Fetch API key (x-api-key) and a required query parameter. Optionally add type to limit the catalog kind. Read the result arrays and data.totalResults. See the API docs for parameters.

### How much does the Apple Music Search API cost?

Pricing is documented on the operation in the API registry (shown on this page). Confirm on every response with meta.creditsCharged — that field is the billing source of truth.

### What sections does Apple Music search return?

artists, albums, songs, playlists, stations, musicVideos, and radioEpisodes on the same response. A request may fill only one or two arrays. Inspect every section before assuming the query matched nothing.

### Does Apple Music search paginate?

No. This operation returns one page of catalog hits. data.totalResults counts rows in this response, not a full-index size. There is no cursor.

### How do I look up one song or album after search?

Use data.songs[].trackId with GET /v1/apple-music/track, or data.albums[].albumId with GET /v1/apple-music/album. Search is discovery; those routes are detail lookups.

### Does this replace the Apple Music API / MusicKit?

No. Social Fetch returns public catalog search results for enrichment pipelines. Use Apple's official Apple Music API when you need playback control, user libraries, or developer-token MusicKit access.
